When we advocate with our colleagues for great attention to digital literacy in the seminary classroom, we always stress the connection between the role of new media is playing in churches and the benefits of exposure to digital pedagogies and assignments in seminary. (See our Teaching page for more on this connection.)
So when we hosted a faculty educational technology retreat in January of 2015, the first thing we did was show examples of formers students and other prominent leaders in our denomination (and beyond) using their digital literacy to great effect.
From there, we continued to introduce the topics of the day, a menu of options from beginner (e.g., Powerpoint skills) to advanced (e.g., creating video lectures).
We believe this simple one-day event built good will for our continuing efforts to advocate for digital literacy integration across the curriculum.
